Some things live in the body, not just the story.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy for the trauma that talk alone can't always reach. Available for individual clients in Florida, New Jersey, and Washington, DC, telehealth or in-person Fridays in Lake Mary, FL.
EMDR is a research-backed, structured therapy that helps the brain reprocess distressing or traumatic memories so they stop feeling as activating in the present. It doesn't require you to narrate every detail of what happened. It works with the nervous system directly, targeting how a memory is stored, not just what you remember about it.
Many clients come to EMDR after talk therapy has helped them understand a pattern intellectually, but the pattern still shows up in their body, their reactions, their relationships. EMDR is often the missing piece for that gap between knowing and actually feeling different.
You don't have to keep re-living it to heal from it.
How I use EMDR.
EMDR is not a first-session technique. I introduce it only after we've built enough safety, stabilization, and resourcing together, your nervous system needs a foundation before reprocessing work, not before. For some clients that takes a few sessions, for others it takes longer, there's no fixed timeline.
As a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and trained EMDR therapist, I integrate EMDR alongside attachment-based and somatic work, rather than as a standalone protocol disconnected from the rest of our therapeutic relationship.
EMDR may be a fit if you:
- ✦ Understand a pattern intellectually but still feel stuck reacting from it
- ✦ Carry specific memories or experiences that still feel activating when they come up
- ✦ Have done talk therapy before and are ready to go deeper than words alone can reach
- ✦ Are already established in individual therapy and stabilized enough to begin reprocessing work
